When Dorothy Sayers presented her paper, "The Lost Tools of Learning," 75 years ago she incisively addressed what was wrong with education. She would have been horrified had she been able to see the situation in education today. It is time we recovered and closely read papers like this.

Nearly 300 years ago Isaac Watts wrote "Logic or the right use of Reason" and followed it up some years later with "The Improvement of the Mind." This influenced one of the greatest English scientists, Michael Faraday. How can one claim to be educated but not be able to think seriously and reason carefully and logically? We need to go back and learn from people like this.
